At Knypersley we try and make maths lessons fun, relevant, practical and challenging. We follow a approach that moves from concrete experiences, which include hands on and practical learning, to representing concepts through pictures and jottings then moving finally to understanding and using abstract numerals or symbols to represent problems. This approach can be referred to as C.P.A – Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract.
Here is a powerpoint that explains this approach more clearly and may shed light on your child’s learning experiences in maths at Knypersley and ideas to support at home.
